Rare liver transplant in Delhi, Man gets liver parts from two different donors: "In a rare, high-risk procedure touted as the first of its kind in India by Ganga Ram Hospital, a man had a ‘double’ liver transplant last month, receiving a part each from two donors. KP Appu Chettiar, a 60-year-old textile businessman from Salem, Tamil Nadu, received a simultaneous double transplant — his 34-year-old nephew Arul Kumar donated the right lobe of his liver while Arul’s wife, 33-year-old Priya, donated the left lobe. Chettiar was terminally ill and was diagnosed with Hepatitis B three years ago. However, it was only four months ago that his condition deteriorated and he even slipped into a coma. Chettiar’s son, Dr A Jaipal, left his medical practice and brought him in June to Ganga Ram Hospital, which found his condition ‘critical’. Doctors immediately decided on a liver transplant.
